Princess and the pasture

The lack of posting can only be attritubted to one thing...I'm damn busy.  I know, I know, I know--I should write more.  But gosh darn it, summer is here and there's a LOT to do around here during the day.  I don't mean "my-to-do-list-is-a-page-long" sort of alot.  I mean "I-could-write-you-a-novel-about-all-the-shit-I-have-to-do-but-don't-really-have-the -ime-to-do-it" sort of long. But hey, that's what "adulting" is all about, right?  Anyway, between work and business; things have been a little crazy around here.

There's been some pretty spectactular fun mixed in that crazy though.  Carol finally got her first horse, Princess, a mini.    As you can see, she and her brother sure do love Princess.   We're told Princess rides and drives, so I'm excited to be learning something new.  I know NOTHING about driving horses.  I have a good local resource who does lots of driving, but if any of you have some tips, ideas, or suggestions---please comment and let me know.  This will be a new thing for me!


We also added another dog, Genious, to our family.  A friend of ours moved to town and Genious is WAAAAAAY to active to enjoy that.  While he has had to learn to hang in his crate while we're gone during the day, he spends the rest of his time playing with the kids and our other pup, Frankie.

In other news, we HAD 12 chickens, but sadly are down to three survivors.  
Hattie, and her two crownies, seem to be enjoying the abundant supply of feed they no longer have to share with 9  other chickens.

So far, I'd have to say it's been a fun summer playing farmer.  We've been working on getting paddocks organized, making plans for future barn building, and just trying to figure out what we want where.  It's a lot, but I feel so lucky to finally be in the position to have those choices.

DIY for the equestrian

Frick on a stick!

I've got a confession.  It's a dark, dirty secret and it has started to take over my life.    No, I do not have another horse.  Besides...it's no secret those 4-legged-hay-eating-hair-shedding-balls-of-joy have taken over my life.  Wait...new essential oils stuff?  Nope.  Not oils related either. I carry this damn thing everywhere and am pretty obsessive about it.  In fact, I carry TWO with me. Maybe a new cell phone?  After all, I am kind of a tech junkie.....  Almost too much of a tech junkie at times.  In fact, I have given serious thought to this article on NPR  and wonder, how many times have I upset my children because I needed to read one more article or look up "one more thing."  I work hard to take time to "unplug" but I wonder if my family and I might need to "unplug" a little more.  Alas, no new phone.  I might be a tech junkie, but I am a CHEAP tech junkie; which means I will keep my phone until it doesn't work anymore.  E

This and that

I have been spending a lot of time working on my mindset.  I've always sort of been a "glass half full" girl, but lately I've been really trying to tackle my issues with money.  Probably not the best idea as a business owner to put this out for the world to see, but historically I've not been real super with money.  There never seemed to be enough, no matter how much we had and I just couldn't figure out what was going on.  I mean, I was doing a lot of things "right": Tracking my spending Creating a budget Paying off high interest debts  Trying hard to build a savings account Putting money in my retirement account But, I was still financially failing.  I've decided I'm going to create a new money story and part of that process is working on my own attitude.  Why?  Because, as I've noticed with young children and with my equine crew, you get more of what you see.  I can't explain why that happens.  There's behavioral
